How it works
When you donate a waqf share today, it is pooled in a Sharia-compliant fund. After one year from your donation, you’ll have provided one person with cataract surgery.
We purchase an asset that will provide profit, but even before your asset is purchased, your waqf share gets to work. Since our inception in 2023, we’ve purchased two properties through our waqf donations, and we aim to continue purchasing one asset per year.
Today!
You donate a £4000 share to waqf
Investment
We pool and invest your donation, earning an average 7% yearly return
Each year
Each year, 80% of profits go towards supporting cataract surgeries.
Reinvestment
10% is reinvested to create more income and impact, and 10% is used to maintain your waqf
Why does this waqf share cost £4,000?
From the very first year that your waqf begins generating profit, you’ll be helping someone regain their sight. In the first year alone, your Light of Sight Waqf share will fund one full cataract surgery, and by year five, your Waqf could be restoring vision for five people every single year.
This Waqf works differently from the standard £100 share. Instead of contributing towards a general pool, a £4,000 Light of Sight Waqf share delivers an entire project on its own – one complete cataract operation in its very first year, with its impact growing year after year through perpetual reinvestment.
If you’d like to be part of this Waqf but aren’t ready to fund a full £4,000 share, you can still donate any amount. Your contribution will be combined with others to support cataract surgeries.
To give any amount, simply enter your chosen value in the donation form.

Why direct your waqf to cataract surgery projects?
Blindness can devastate a family, robbing them of their livelihood, income, education, and independence. But when caused by cataracts, blindness is completely preventable and reversible. Across the world, 94 million people have moderate to severe visual impairments because of untreated cataracts. Between 15 and 20 million people have completely lost their sight, and 15 million sole providers for their families but have visual impairments because of cataracts.
Donating your waqf to our light for sight projects will return the sight of hundreds of people for years to come.

FAQs
The Light of Sight Waqf is a permanent charitable investment whose annual profits are used to support cataract surgeries for people with preventable blindness, restoring their sight, independence, and mobility.
When you donate £4,000 as a waqf share, it is invested in a Sharia-compliant way — usually in a low-risk property. 80% of profits are allocated each year to cataract surgeries, providing one surgery in the first year. 10% is reinvested to increase future impact and returns, and 10% is used to maintain the waqf.
A £4,000 donation can generate £54,831.07 in profit over 100 years, which can provide cataract surgery for 1,300 people. Even after this period, your waqf continues to grow and help more people.
In partnership with Human Appeal, the cataract surgery care includes: Performing cataract surgeries to restore sight. Transport to and from hospital. Medical and post-operative care. Food and shelter during recovery. Eye test camps for early detection of blindness. Awareness campaigns. Doctors, medical staff, and medical equipment.
