Education Support Waqf

Education Support Waqf

Education funded by waqf

Funds created through your waqf investment support schooling for children by building schools and playgrounds, training teachers, sponsoring education, providing school meals, furnishing and equipping classrooms, and providing psychosocial support and counselling in schools.

How it works

When you donate a waqf share today, it is pooled in a Sharia-compliant fund. Within one year of your donation, your waqf share generates profit to help provide education projects such as school construction, classroom equipment, or psychosocial support. We purchase an asset that will provide profit, but even before your asset is purchased, your waqf share gets to work. Since our inception in 2023, we’ve purchased two properties and we aim to continue purchasing.

Investment

We pool and invest your donation, earning an average 7% yearly return

Each year

Each year, 80% of profits go towards education projects such as school construction, classroom equipment, or psychosocial support.

Reinvestment

10% is reinvested into a property to create more income and impact, and 10% is used to maintain your waqf.

Wyclif Kukiriza was just ten years old when his father walked away, his mother Deborah was left to raise three children alone. They moved to a poor suburb of Kampala, Uganda. Every day, Deborah washed clothes and sold second-hand shoes to feed her family.

Wyclif had been the family’s hope, a bright child who once dreamed of becoming a doctor. But when they moved, there was no government school in the area. The only nearby school charged more than Deborah could ever earn.

So Wyclif stayed home. Instead of carrying books, he carried water.

Education is the best anti-poverty program.

Why direct your waqf to education projects?

Globally, 244 million children are not in school, including 129 million girls, and one in every six children in low-income countries will never finish primary school.

Millions of children learn in unsafe, unfurnished buildings without enough equipment for each child, and for many children school is the only place they get a regular, reliable meal.

In some communities, it can take six hours each day to fetch water, which is typically done by mothers and their children; this is time that could be spent earning an income, caring for children or getting an education.

Donating you waqf to our education projects ensures that you continue to help vulnerable children to have access to education for years to come.

FAQs

The Education Waqf is a permanent charitable investment whose annual profits are used to provide education for children in need around the world through building schools, furnishing classrooms, training teachers, sponsoring students, providing school meals, and offering psychosocial and counselling support.

When you donate £100 as a waqf share, it is invested in a Sharia-compliant way — usually in a low-risk property. Each year, 80% of the profits are allocated to education projects such as school construction, classroom equipment, or psychosocial support, while 10% is reinvested to increase future income, and 10% is used to maintain and sustain the waqf.

In partnership with Human Appeal, which has over 30 years of experience in more than 25 countries, the waqf supports projects including: Nutritious school meals to encourage attendance. Education sponsorships, covering fees, transport, books, and uniforms. School construction and renovation. Furnishing classrooms with desks and whiteboards. Playgrounds and sports kits. IT and computer lab equipment. Mobile schools in displacement camps. Psychosocial support for children affected by war. Teacher and staff training.

A £100 donation can generate £1,370.78 in profit over 100 years, which can provide a quality education for 68 children — and your waqf continues to support education even beyond that.

Because education is the key to building stronger communities and empowering future generations. Today, more than 244 million children are out of school worldwide, including 129 million girls, and one in six children in low-income countries will never complete primary school. By directing your waqf towards education, you help give vulnerable children a chance to learn and build a better future.
