Eid al-Adha.. Here I am o Allah

As these chants fill the skies above the pilgrims, greeting Allah for His Mercy, Muslims across the world call out too – united across the globe by our call to The Most Merciful:

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha il Allah. Wallahu akbar. Allahu akbar, walilahil hamd.

Pilgrims call to Allah in His infinite mercy, as Muslims mimic their worship by attending Eid prayer and sacrificing an animal.

What is Eid al-Adha?

Also known as Eid al-Kabir, these four days mark the conclusion of Hajj. On these days, pilgrims will do the Rami (symbolic stoning of Shaytan), tawaf at the Kaaba, sa’I between Safa and Marwa, shaving or trimming of the hair, and the udhiya sactifice of an animal.

Muslims around the world also sacrifice an animal after completing Eid prayer, a sunnah and a commemoration of the devotion and obedience of Ibrahim (AS).

After years of wanting a child, the Prophet Ibrahim was blessed with a son, Ismail (AS). God commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice Ismail, and Ibrahim obeyed, trusting Allah’s divine plan. At the last moment, Allah spared Ismail, replacing him with a ram. Today, pilgrims and non-pilgrims sacrifice an animal to commemorate Ibrahim’s devotion and in obedience to Allah.

The Lasting Spirit of Eid al-Adha

While Eid al-Adha is a time of celebration, it is also a reminder of sacrifice, gratitude, and complete trust in Allah. The lessons of Eid al-Adha extend far beyond the four days of Eid itself, encouraging Muslims to strengthen their faith, increase their charity, and support those in need. Whether through Qurbani, sadaqah, or contributing to a waqf, every act of giving reflects the generosity and devotion that this blessed occasion represents. By helping others during Eid al-Adha, we honour the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and seek the pleasure of Allah through sincere acts of worship and compassion.
